1. Expansivos: Cuentan con un orificio en la punta y su efectividad se debe a la presión que produce el aire al comprimirse en dicho hueco.
2. Explosivos: Contienen una pequeña cantidad de material explosivo, colocado en el interior de un orificio producido en la cabeza del proyectil y que se activa al entrar en contacto con el blanco, deformándose en forma de disco.
3. Fumígenos: Contienen sustancias capaces de producir grandes cantidades de humo.
4. Iluminantes: Contienen fósforo para producir una luz intensa, siendo utilizados para iluminar grandes áreas.
5. Incendiarios: También contienen fósforo y son utilizados para provocar incendios a distancia.
6. Perforantes: Son fabricados con materiales de alta resistencia a efecto de que penetren cuerpos duros o metálicos.
7. Tóxicos: Son los que expiden gases tóxicos.
8. Trazadores: Se utilizan para marcar la trayectoria del proyectil durante la noche, ya que contienen fósforo.
