esencia de algo. Hecho imprevisto, suceso eventual; y, más especialmente, cuando orina una desgracia. Para
el Derecho, es todo acontecimiento que ocasiona un daño. (v. Caso fortuito, Imprudencia, Responsabilidad,
Riesgo profesional.) DEL TRABAJO. Suceso imprevisto, sobrevenido en el acto o con motivo del trabajo, que
produce una lesión o perturbación funcional transitoria o permanente. Todo acontecimiento que, por razón de
su trabajo, ocasione un daño fisiológico o psicológico al obrero o empleado, y que le impida proseguir con
toda normalidad sus tareas, constituye accidente. Puede originarse éste por culpa del mismo trabajador, por
la del patrono, por la de ambos, por la de un tercero, por circunstancia o naturaleza del trabajo y por causas
indeterminables. EN EL TRAYECTO. Conocido comúnmente como accidente «in itinere», es el que ocurre al
trabajador en el trayecto de ida o de regreso al trabajo. (v. «In itinere».)
